What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy is a fast growing field of complementary therapy in Australia. Studying Yoga Therapy takes you beyond teaching general classes and into the space of empowering students who have injury or illness. The practice is developed within a professional therapeutic context and draws on the tools of yoga in a one-to-one setting.

Deepa Gupta

Deepa Gupta

Deepa has trained as a Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist in both Australia and India within the Krishnamacarya lineage. Deepa has supported students in healing with a variety of health issues such as stroke, breast cancer, neck injury, disc herniation, frozen shoulder, hypertension, multiple sclerosis and anxiety. Deepa’s mission is to help her students light up as they heal, and help them recognise that they aren’t defined by their illness, but how they respond to it. She brings this expertise to the Yoga Therapy Training.

Annie Phelps

Annie Phelps

Annie has 35 years’ experience as a practicing physiotherapist, giving her a deep practical knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Her studies in the Krishnamacharya lineage of Yoga and Yoga Therapy have deepened and extended her application of this knowledge. It has also proven that there is nothing Yoga cannot touch and revive, be it physical, emotional, mental and/or spiritual. Annie has qualifications as a Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist and a Bachelor of Physiotherapy.

Simone Hollier

Simone is a qualified Yoga Teacher, Naturopath, Herbalist, Nutritionist and Yoga Therapist. Her mission is to nurture, educate and empower people to achieve better health and vitality using natural therapies that are both traditionally and scientifically proven to be effective. She is passionate about helping support people in achieving their health goals by restoring balance, health and wellbeing in a holistic and sustainable way.

Sarah Dunn

Sarah Dunn

Sarah is a qualified Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist based on the Central Coast. She has studied with Yogic Wisdom in the Krishnamacharya lineage, and is passionate about reducing the impacts of stress and burnout on the mind and body. Combining her background in counselling with yoga therapy, Sarah supports mental and emotional health through compassionate, practical yogic tools.

Alissa has been practicing yoga for many years and is a qualified Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist based on the Central Coast. Having studied with Yogic Wisdom in the Krishnamacharya lineage, Alissa cares deeply about supporting her students to connect with the heart, and work with the Prana and the Mind to address their health issues. Having lived with and supported many who have Autoimmune conditions, Alissa is passionate about supporting new therapists to help those living with Autoimmune issues.

Frequently asked Questions

1. What are the pre-requisites for undertaking this training?

You will need a 350-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification to be eligible for this Yoga Therapy Course. If you have done a 200 hours teacher training, you may do an online bridging course with us to become eligible for Yoga Therapy Training. We also welcome applicants with qualifications in allied health fields looking to integrate yoga therapy into their practice.

Applicants should have teaching experience, a personal Yoga practice, and hold a current First Aid Certificate.

2. What is the benefit of this training being registered with Yoga Australia?

Yoga Australia is the leading professional body for yoga therapists in Australia. Being registered means the training meets nationally recognised standards in content, delivery, and assessment. Training with a registered provider adds credibility to your qualification and increases employability in the industry and trust with students.

3. Can I do this training alongside work and parenting?

Yes the 650 hours is spread across two years which allows for space and time to understand and integrate the teachings, amongst work and parenting commitments. It offers a blend of in-person and online study during school terms. Most classes are recorded and available to watch later and we also offer ongoing support and flexibility where possible to help you to complete the training.
