We practice a Living Tradition on Ancient Land

Yoga is a sacred tradition, passed from heart to heart through dedication, inquiry, and love.At Yogic Wisdom, we honour the land we practice on and offer our gratitude to the Indigenous people who have protected and cared for this land over thousands of generations.

We practice a Living Tradition on Ancient Land

We also honour the long line of teachers who have preserved and passed down these ancient teachings over thousands of years in India, that are now shared in the West.

Rishi Patanjali

We are grateful for the teachings of Rishi Patanjali, who composed the Yoga Sutras and distilled the essence of Yoga. Patanjali’s teachings help us understand the mind and practice towards our inner freedom.

Babaji

We offer our respects to Babaji, who is regarded in the Nath lineage as Adinath, the original teacher of the Hatha Yoga tradition. We are grateful to the Naths who have kept the practices of Yoga alive in India, transmitting them through direct experience and devoted practice.

Krishnamacharya

We are grateful to T. Krishnamacharya, who is the teacher of our lineage, who believed that Yoga must be adapted to serve the unique needs of each individual, offering Yoga as a traditional spiritual practice as well as for healing and therapy.

My very first experience with yoga was in high school, when a teacher introduced it as a sport elective. I was one of the few students who chose it and I loved it. Sadly, the program didn’t continue, but something had been sparked. Throughout my early twenties, I found myself continually drawn back to yoga. It became more than just a passing interest; it became a source of grounding as I navigated health issues, burnout, and the relentless pace of modern life.

Yoga became a vital support in my journey toward balance and healing. As I explored alternative therapies and holistic modalities, my path deepened. During a profound meditative experience, I received a clear and intuitive message: do your yoga teacher training. That was the catalyst. I began searching and soon stumbled upon Yogic Wisdom.

I had attended other school information sessions, but within two minutes of meeting Kym, I felt a deep sense of knowing that this was the school for me. I remember feeling both excited and nervous that first weekend. Doubts about my flexibility or whether I looked like a “real yogi” crept in, but they quickly dissolved. I learned that yoga is truly accessible to everyone, no matter where they’re at, and that it goes far beyond the physical postures. I also found the spiritual depth I’d been seeking.

With a strong personal interest in health, it felt like a natural next step to continue into Yoga Therapy training. It was during this year that Yogic Wisdom began to expand and an opportunity to join the teaching team arose. I was ecstatic! Kym saw something in me that I hadn’t yet discovered. As my role grew, I stepped more fully into myself and into my teaching voice with confidence and clarity.

When we launched the training on the Central Coast (my hometown) it felt especially meaningful. That first cohort became my local yogic tribe: a circle of sisters who continue to support one another on and off the mat.

I could never have imagined I’d be here supporting others on their journey to share the path of yoga. I’m deeply grateful for this unfolding and excited to continue walking this lifelong path of learning, practice, and connection.

In 2019, I was exploring yoga and attending regular classes at a local gym. It had always been for physical purposes—it made me feel calm afterwards, but it never truly stilled my mind or took me deeper into myself.

It wasn’t until a substitute teacher led one of the classes that I really felt the power of fully dropping into a place of yoga. You could feel the energy in the room, it was palpable. The movement and breath became so purposeful, and by the end of class, I felt this sense of peace and stillness like I’d experienced something new, something that just made sense. I was left with a curiosity about what I had just experienced.

I chatted with the teacher afterwards and discovered we knew each other through my brother-in-law. He shared that he’d recently completed his yoga training with Yogic Wisdom in Newcastle. Later that night, I found myself on their Facebook page, sitting with everything I’d felt during class.

Having meditated for years, I knew this feeling wasn’t something to ignore. Not long after, I called Kym, the founder of Yogic Wisdom, and she invited me to an info session. I was the only one who turned up that evening, but it led to the most nourishing conversation with Kym and another teacher. I enrolled the next day.

After completing my training, I started teaching regular classes, which gradually evolved into supporting the teacher training course throughout the year. I had the privilege of attending a Yogic Wisdom retreat in India with our founder Kym, our director Deepa, and Sarah, the Central Coast coordinator. That experience brought even more depth to my journey.

Eventually, I stepped into the role of course coordinator—a full circle moment that allowed me to share the same magic I’d felt in 2019 with others in our community.

I haven’t looked back since.

Longing to diversify my home practice and support my health, I signed up for Teacher Training with Yogic Wisdom, unaware of how impactful this would be. Incorporating the many aspects of yoga into my life has created a subtle strength within, as well as a sense of deep-rooted contentment.

Learning to integrate asana with breath has been life changing, and I love the timeless quality this practice brings to my day. I find yoga to be a deep well I can constantly draw from to open and expand my body, mind and spirit further.

It is humbling to be a part of the Yogic Wisdom team, and a privilege to walk alongside students as they make their own journey with yoga.

I came to yoga through connections made joining a yoga retreat in Bali in 2010. My life was frenetic, stressful and lacking soul. A mother of teenage boys and full time pharmacist.

As my commitment to the practice grew through regular early morning trips to the yoga shala and many workshop experiences with renowned teachers, I found myself withdrawing from the way society and my work environment urged us to live and more towards the philosophy of Yoga and Ayurveda to live in harmony with nature and understand the mind.

I had the time and means to do a ‘fancy training’ in a ‘fancy location’ but knew in my heart how much I wanted this to be a part of my every day life and connections. I wanted to study locally and felt very drawn to the year long course with time to integrate and absorb the teachings (and to solidify life long friendships).

I was looking for my tribe. Yogic Wisdom has provided me with the most beautiful sangha (a group of soulfully connected friends and ongoing student connections).

What a wonderful year of personal growth and transformation my training year was. I felt so supported and nourished as we all came to know ourselves and each other deeply. The teachers’ wisdom and lived experience of this ancient culture tradition supported this for us all in so many different ways.

As I had a strong asana-based practice for many years I was asked to support the teacher training in this area as soon as I qualified, especially some of the more challenging asana, like headstands. Learning new skills and butting up against my comfort zone has been interesting and rewarding to say the least.

I feel blessed to have stayed connected with Yogic Wisdom from this beginning and weaved being a part of the teaching team with the 2 year Yoga Therapy Certificate course.

I continue to study in the lineage of Krishnamacharya with local and international teachers. Yoga is not a ‘thing’ it is a way of life, a state that isn’t really taught, but revealed.

Let your revelation begin 🙂
